How to prevent entry of spammers into forum

I started my community 3 days ago and I got 12 registered members till now. but all are spammers and they all don't have any relation with my forum content and they are posting scraps in my forum.
Are they bots or real?

Try Sortables CAPTCHA Plugin for your PhpBB forum. I am using this on my PhpBB forum and so far there's no spam accounts ever created.

reCaptcha is one of most popular anti-spam plugins. Many websites use it not just forum sites.

One thing that I hate reCaptcha is sometimes the texts are not clear. I know there's a refresh button where you could change the current image but sometimes the characters I see is correct but after submitting, it will tell me that I entered an incorrect character.

It's hard to be sure, but they're probably bots. Anyway, it doesn't really matter - the point is that you need to remove them.

1. Be sure to ban these users, including their IP addresses and email addresses
2. Make sure that visitors cannot post on your website. (They should have to create an account.)
3. Use CAPTCHA or image verification to weed out the bots.
4. If possible, make new users' posts have to be moderated before appearing to the public.

Also, for extreme cases, you might wish to "close" your forum to new members, or make it so that all new members must be first approved before they can post.
